The Kentucky Author Forum welcomes Hillary Rodham Clinton Thursday, April 24, 1997 |
![]()
First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton, author of the bestseller It Takes
a Village and Other
Lessons Children Teach Us (Simon & Schuster, $19.50 cloth, $10 paper), will be the
next guest of the Kentucky Author Forum on April 24.
It Takes a Village is a collection of Clinton's personal
insights on the most critical issues
facing America. As a long-time advocate for children, the First Lady shares her views on
the needs of the country's youth. The title of her book, taken from an old African
proverb,
"It takes an entire village to raise a child," is meant to remind us that
children exist in the
world as well as in the family and will thrive only if the whole of society cares enough
to
provide for them. "The village," writes Clinton, "can no longer be defined
as a place on a
map, or a list of people or organizations... it is the network of values and relationships
that
support and affect our lives."
Carl Sferrazza Anthony, a recognized expert on First Ladies and
their political roles, will
interview Clinton. His forthcoming book, As We Remember Her: Jacqueline Kennedy
Onassis in the Words of Her Friends and Family, arrives in stores this month. Anthony
is also the author of the two-volume book First Ladies: The Saga of the Presidents'
Wives
and Their Power --1789-1990.
A dinner honoring Clinton and Anthony, hosted by University of Louisville President Dr.
John W. Shumaker, Mrs. Lucy Shumaker, and Mr. and Mrs. David Jones, follows the
book signing. Tickets are available for $125 each ($85 tax deductible) only through the
Kentucky Center ticket office.
